What
started out as a simple tribute show to former Deadboy, Stiv
Bators has turned into a must see event. On Saturday, September
18th in Cleveland, Ohio, musicians will be getting together
to perform songs by The Deadboys, The Lords of the New Church,
as well as other Stiv Bators related bands. So far, the line-up
includes The Cynics (Pits), Cobra Verde (Cleve), Rainy Day
Saints (Cleve), and The Witch Hunters with Mike Metoff (former
Pagans and Cramps).
Also
planned for the evening will be rare video footage of The
Deadboys and a photography show from the archives of Anastasia
Pantsios, Jim Lanza, and Theresa Kereakes. Topping off the
evening is a scheduled set by the remaining Deadboys. This
is the first time in 17 years that they have all played together.
Stiv
Bators, passed away in Paris due to complications from being
hit by a car.
Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, Stiv became a well-known
singer fronting The Deadboys, The Lords of The New Church
and The Wanderers. Stiv also appeared in a few films, most
notably as "Bo-Bo" in POLYESTER (1981) and as "Dick
Slammer" in TAPEHEADS (1988).
The
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is also helping the
tribute show by hosting a Q&A with remaining members:
Johnny Blitz, Cheetah Chrome, Jeff Magnum, and Jimmy Zero.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame event will start at 3pm with
some video footage of The Deadboys from CBGBS in NYC. After
the videos, fans will have a chance to ask questions. Immediately
following the Q&A session, part of the infamous "Blitz
Benefit" concert at CBGBS will be shown. This concert
was put on to help with medical expenses after Johnny Blitz
was stabbed in New York. The footage features an appearance
by Divine. Tickets to enter The Rock Hall are $5.00, if you
purchase a ticket to The Beachland concert before Friday,
Sept 17th, admission will be free.
The
invitation has also been sent out to other musicians that
Stiv was connected with to join the event and help celebrate
his life.
The
show happens at The Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland on Saturday,
Sept. 18th at 10pm (doors at 8pm).Tickets to this show are
$10 and $12.00 at The Beachland the night of the show. All
proceeds from this show will be donated to a charity in Stiv's
