Better known for prolific graffiti than music (allegedly
including a "safety orange" 'V' spraypainted
on the lower fin of a Goodyear Blimp). In 1981 the
V-Nervz were the sole remaining proponents of punk
rock in Akron, Ohio. The band played gigs at JB's
and the Bank opening for the Clocks, the Bursting
Brains and Red October. Members included Johnny Dread
and Jimmy Dread - guitars, Phlegm - vocals, Jimi Imij
- bass, and "Hookeye" - drums. After a final
gig at a Halloween party, survivors went on to form
or join bands including the Urban Mutants, ODFX, Agitated,
High Plains Drifters, Ragged Bags, and many others.
This twenty year old graffiti is still visible on
a railway overpass on Forge St. near Akron City Hospital.
