It was the day before Christmas Eve 1990 and we had just driven 8 long hours through '"vodoo-land" (Pennsylvania) during the night in a packed Dodge extended van. It was loaded to the hilt with band gear, equipment, and members of two bands from Kent & Cleveland: Germ Free Adolescents and Plain White Toast. We pull into the Newark Radisson, a four-star hotel, around 6 a.m.; low-cost accomodation arrainged thanks to Dave Hackely, bass player of Toast, through his job at the Cleveland Radisson. We pull up in front of the main lobby entrance, open the side sliding door and out 'pops' this large spare tire. It takes a few circular spins around two airline pilots standing on the red carpet waiting for their taxi to take them to their morning flight. I hop out of the van clad in a black leather biker jacket, looking like shite after an all-nighter, then hear one of the stupified pilots remark, "What the hell is this, the fucking Motel 6?" I responded, "Hey this place looks pretty nice, where from Cleveland." The pilots look at each other, shake their heads in disbelief and chuckle.

You should have scene the face of the consierge as we start rolling
amplifiers, drum kits, and baggage throught the lobby. Their goes the
neighborhood for the next couple of days!
